Join the York Symphony Chorus!

The York Symphony Chorus is currently holding auditions.  Join us for an exciting 2017/2018 season as we perform Schubert’s Magnificat, favorite holiday classics, and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky. Great music that’s a joy to perform. Chorus members have the best seats in the house for every performance!

When/where are the auditions?
 The primary audition dates are TUES/WED, September 5, 6.
 Appointments are made 6:00-8:00 pm at Heidelberg Church, 47 W. Philadelphia St., York PA.

What if I can’t make those audition dates?
We will also hear auditions on Mon. Sept. 11 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Do you have to read music?
Yes, but you don’t have to be proficient.
You should be able to distinguish basic note/rest values and understand simple meters.
You should be able to judge the contour of a vocal line to determine whether your voice should move higher or lower.

Is previous choral experience necessary?
No, but most of our members have sung in other choirs.

What happens at the audition?
Plan to come “warmed up”
You will sing “America, the Beautiful” for Dr. Shannon, accompanied by Jami Paules on piano. Click here for a link to the sheet music and accompaniment track.
You may be asked to vocalize so that your range can be determined.
You will be asked to sight sing 8 measures of a choral piece on your vocal part line.

When will I know the results of the audition?
You will receive an email within 24 hours of the audition.

When/where does the York Symphony Chorus rehearse?
Monday evenings, 7:30 – 9:00 pm at Heidelberg UCC church, 47 W. Philadelphia St.
Good parking is available in a lighted lot behind the church.
First rehearsal is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11
