Music Director/Conductor Search
About The Conductor Search:
The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) is conducting a search for a new Music Director/Conductor. The search, which is being conducted nationally, will accept inquiries from potential candidates through mid-December. The search process will culminate during the 2013-2014 season as final candidates for the position serve as guest conductors.
YSO’s Music Director/Conductor is responsible for ensuring the organization meets its long-range artistic, strategic and educational goals. In addition to rehearsing and conducting performances, they provide key leadership to the organization; selecting guest artists, determining performance repertoire and shaping the musical direction of the Symphony.
The search is being conducted on a national level via targeted channels that reach candidates with the qualifications and the experience necessary to be successful in the role. The process is being guided by a special YSO Search Committee, which includes board members, symphony musicians and community representatives. The Search Committee will select four finalists during the process. Each finalist will be invited to lead and conduct one concert during the 2013-2014 season.
The search comes as long-time conductor and music director, Dr. Robert Hart Baker, celebrates his 30th anniversary with the York Symphony Orchestra and prepares to assume the distinguished role of Music Director Laureate. The 2012-2013 season represents the 80th anniversary for York Symphony Orchestra and features special performances with music hand-picked by Dr. Baker in celebration of his 30th anniversary with the organization.
The YSO will kick off 2013 with two classical performances featuring dynamic soloists and a special pops performance, conducted by Todd Ellison (one of Broadway’s most accomplished music directors), featuring popular songs from “Hollywood to Broadway.” For information and tickets, call 717-846-1111 or visit www.yorksymphony.org.
