Symphony Overview
Formed in 1933, the York Symphony has performed without interruption since the Depression, through World War II, and continues today.
The YSO Chorus was formed in the 1950’s and continues to sing with the YSO in three concerts each season.
Our Maestro, Dr. Robert Hart Baker has held the baton for the YSO for 25 years and is a York resident.
Up to Eighty musicians take the stage for each of the YSO’s concerts. Many of these outstanding musicians are your neighbors, friends and colleagues
Each season there are six subscription concerts, plus a Family Holiday concert, Pops Concert, July 4th Concert, Saturday Morning Symphony—A Casual Family Concert, 2 Young Person’ Concerts and 4 summer Pops in the Park concerts
World reknowned guest artists join the YSO in the Masterworks Concerts every year.
The YSO’s seasons contain a broad mix of classical and pops opportunities.
More than 350 volunteers support the work of the YSO.
The YSO reaches more than 60,000 people each year by performing a broad repertoire of classical and contemporary music.
The YSO supports educational programs for grades K-12.
In the last four years, the YSO has reached more than 15,000 students each year.
In the last two years, the YSO has been involved in 23 educational events.
As part of our Guest Artists’ contracts, special in school residency programs are arranged.
The all volunteer “Association” raises approximately 20% of the annual budget.
Ticket sales cover 30% of our costs.
Nearly 85% of the budget goes directly to concert production costs.
