Volunteering

We've been an important pillar of the community for 75 years with a great tradition of generous support from the community. The York Symphony Orchestra is more than its musicians. We're more than our conductor. We're more than our generous patrons. Our mission extends our reach far into the community, and we're dependent on the relationship and involvement of the community to continue to grow and spread the benefits of music spanning generations-from seasoned symphony patrons, to providing a catalyst for budding young musicians through youth music instruction.

We rely on your involvement, and other active members of the community, to continually provide your support of our mission that continues to flourish and reach more people each year. Whether you simply want to lend a hand, or you want to play an integral role in growing with YSO, there's a place for you in the YSO Volunteer family.

The YSO has a collective of dedicated and talented people who share and support our mission, who give their time, energy and talent selflessly in support of the good that YSO provides the community.

Some of our volunteers provide their dedication and support of YSO through:
- Greeting and ushering patrons at Symphony events
- Organizing fundraising events
- Staging
- Educational efforts
- Assisting with our marketing efforts by writing brief articles for the media

We're continually surprised by the creative ways you find to support YSO, to help us grow and to reach out to the community. To get involved as a volunteer, please contact us at 717-812-0717 or by e-mailing us at: mailto:volunteering@yorksymphony.org

We are pleased to have you as friends, supporters and a part of our community.

Our mission goes beyond providing entertainment and performance

BACKSTAGE AND BEYOND

There is a place for you at the York Symphony! "I can't play an instrument", "I can't lift and move heavy things", "I don't know that much about music" - are remarks we hear often. Being on stage or in the audience are two ways to be a part of the YSO, but there are many other ways too. The good news is there are opportunities at the YSO for everyone!

Our largest and most visible group is the 340-member Association. This volunteer organization, comprised of men and women, come together to organize and attend various special functions, such as the Winter Pops Concert, the Holiday and Spring Musicales, the fall Tea, the spring Luncheon and a number of other activities. They match your interests with tasks and together you get the job done - and have fun doing it!

Some dedicated volunteers come to the office on a weekly basis to help with those glamorous administrative tasks - such as filing, updating the mailing list, stuffing envelopes and keeping track of calendars and appointments. Another dedicated group, the Staging Committee, lays out and organizes the physical logistics of each concert - a to-scale layout of the stage and the musicians, lighting, sound, instrument rentals and much more. During the concerts volunteers help with ushering, while another busy group prepares for the private Sponsor Reception and other volunteers assist the Guest Artists with transportation. The YSO offers so many opportunities to make new friends and celebrate together throughout the year.

Without our hundreds of volunteers and financial supporters, the YSO would cease to exist. If you would like to become more involved with the YSO, call the office at 717-812-0717 and speak with Phyllis LoPresti, Donna Snyder or Deb Chronister or e-mail us at ysoisgreat@comcast.net.
