Based on a Russian folk tale, Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale weaves music, dance and the written word to enthrall the viewer. A deserted soldier trades his fiddle with the devil and is rewarded with unlimited riches. Consequences arise as the solider fights for his soul in this legendary parable. Stravinsky masterfully incorporates sharp rhythms and biting harmonies to invoke feelings of love, loss, and betrayal.  The Soldier’s Tale features a chamber orchestra consisting of a clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, percussion, violin and double bass.
